February 2024
February started with a trip south for work. I stayed at the rumored to be haunted, almost 100 year old Don CeSar Hotel on St Pete's Beach Florida. If you are interested you can read about it here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Don_CeSar.
I did not see any ghosts but the beach at night was a little unnerving. It was cold so I did not have any company that I could see. It was dark because it was overcast, stars and moon light blocked, leaving the beach and ocean to blend. There was no slope to the water so it felt like you could get pulled in at any moment. Not like the loud and wild coast of Maine where you always know where the water meets the shore.
Started and finish reading an advanced reader copy of Dear Hanna by Zoje Stage. It's a follow up to her break out novel Baby Teeth that was the right amount of messed up. Always cool to revisit characters and see where they end up. Recommended Read for sure. It's released August 13th 2024 - pre order here: https://www.amazon.com/Dear-Hanna-Novel-Zoje-Stage/dp/1662521006/ref=tmm_hrd_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=&sr=.
I finally got around to reading Lone Woman by Victor Lavalle and I was not let down. It was a great read with amazing characters. I love books that entertain, teach, and add a little bit of something scary.
I'm will be starting to read the Bram Stoker award winning Beulah by Christi Noble and that looks pretty great as well.
This months television attention was drawn to The Curse and I did not see the ending coming. It was wild, confusing, and a disturbing what if. Aside from that watched multiple seasons and countries versions of The Traitors as a good excuse to hang with the family.
For writing.... I made a few additional edits to Disappearing and started to work with Jen on the cover. I edited another story in my book of short stories Thing Don't End Well.
Started a new story and I'm not sure where it's going to go. It started with a day off and a drive so it could go anywhere or no where. Feels good to be writing something though.
After abandoning Twitter/X I started focusing on Threads because why not. I'm looking to grow my follower numbers there so if you are on Threads follow for some details about when I'll be releasing books and stories. https://www.threads.net/@shawnpatrickwhite
Here's a picture I took of the Don Cesar from the beach. I made it black and white so it looks more haunted and spooky.
