November 2022

November, the day after Thanksgiving, Black Friday. If you want to avoid shopping, I'm pretty sure you can stream the 2021 movie Black Friday starring Ash/Bruce Campbell. I can't believe this is the first Black Friday movie since the 1940 classic starring Boris Karloff and Bela Lugosi. I think I'll watch the newer one.

Here is some stuff I've read this month.

Fairytale by Stephen King, I loved how it started, classic King in a familiar setting and then into the Fairytale world that at times was a bit slower but still good.

I picked the Whale by Samual Hunter after reading about the new film by Darren Aranofsky. I stated before that I have not read many plays, but this one was excellent. The second play in the book, A Bright New Boise, was also great. I don't think I'll read many more plays, but maybe.

Motherthing by Ainslie Hogarth starts horrifically and walks you through a breakdown of suffering and loss. While it's not a play, it has some chapters, generally set in the past, formatted like a script, so that's interesting.

I just picked up a Psalm for the Wild-Built by Becky Chambers and can't wait to start reading. It's one of those books that you see and just think, 'This is gonna be a great book.' I hope I am not setting my expectations too high, and I'm let down, but I don't think so. It has a Robot and a Monk.

I'm not sure this is the best place to talk about what I'm reading. I really should just be using and linking to GoodReads. The comments and recommendations on books are so much better for the authors than placing them here. Maybe that'll be my new year's resolution. If you are on Goodreads and you've read my book 'A Good Meal' here's a link if you are feeling generous with a rating or review

I am almost finished with the edit for my new novel 'Disappearing.' the goal is to be done before the weekends over. Then I will start formatting it to self-publish. Jen will work on illustrations after her holiday pottery-making and selling season has tapered off a bit. You can check out what she does here if you are interested in supporting a potter. While reading a good book, there are no finer mugs for tea and coffee.

Next up, I'll start to edit the short stories and novellas that have been building up for a couple of short story collections. One sci-fi'ish and one horror'ish. I think, if I had to choose, all of my stories would fall under speculative fiction. Here's a Wikipedia link to what speculative fiction is.

That's it until December. I think I have a scary Christmas story kicking around somewhere. If I can find it and it's shareable, maybe I'll share it next month.
